Sylvia joined the MAC team as an Assistant Conservator in 2016. With four years of experience in contemporary art fabrication specializing in industrial coatings, Sylvia has worked with a wide range of artists in New York, including Jeff Koons, Urs Fischer, and Anish Kapoor, among many others, on a variety of projects. She completed a BFA majoring in Painting at RMIT University (Australia) in 2015 and is currently completing a Masters of Cultural Materials Conservation with the University of Melbourne. She undertook her pre-program training at the MAC studio, and worked as a conservation intern at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) in Brisbane, Australia. Sylvia has a particular interest in non-traditional and industrial materials and techniques, as incorporated in the studio practice of contemporary artists. Her final thesis, Building a Conservation Archive for Warhol: Reconciling interpretation and preservation for fabricated painting is based on MAC’s extensive Warhol material archive. She brings to MAC an extensive knowledge of industrial finishes, paints, and coatings as well as skills in color matching and airbrushing.
